This recipe has been posted on the Internet, and on several printed cookbooks. The original author of this recipe claims to have been a barbecue cook in Texas, and to have used it for as long as she can remember. One thing this author makes clear is that this sauce is not meant to be used to marinate meat or fowl, but to be served on or with grilled meat or fish, or even as a dipping sauce for chips or fries. This author also stresses that this recipe is not meant for cooking the meat or fish in this sauce, but to simply dip the meat or fish into it while it’s being cooked.
The purpose of this blog is to promote a low carb lifestyle and share recipes with simplified directions and ingredients that are easily accessible to the general public
So you’ve been going low carb for a while now and you’ve just started making your own low carb BBQ sauce. Great! The next step is to experiment with different types and recipe variations until you find the perfect one. You’ve probably already done several of these, but let’s review your options.
Condiments
I’m convinced that condiments like me as much as I adore them. I’ll confess it’s difficult to choose a favorite, so here are my top three: mayonnaise, soy sauce, and BBQ sauce. Mayo and soy sauce are perfect for my keto diet, but BBQ sauce believes I’ve been neglecting him, and he’s right! How am I expected to eat something so sweet that it contains brown sugar, white sugar, and ketchup?!
Over the last few months, the guilt had built up to the point where I realized enough was enough — we belonged together, after all. It was clear that I needed to make a BBQ Sauce with Low Carbs that would satisfy all of my condiment cravings! The key to making this BBQ sauce is to eliminate most of the sugars, replacing brown sugar with sugar-free maple syrup and ordinary ketchup with “reduced sugar” ketchup.
Frequently stir
Given this recipe’s simplicity, I’m really disappointed in myself for allowing our time apart to continue for so long! We even pared down the ingredients in a traditional store-bought BBQ sauce to make ours simple to create at home. Here’s how it works:

- Ketchup with Less Sugar
- Maple Syrup with No Sugar
- Worcestershire Sauce (Worcestershire Sauce)
- Apple Cider Vinegar is a vinegar made from apples.
- Water
- Powdered onion
- Salt
- Pepper
Although the ingredient list is simple, the taste is fantastic! Simply bring all of your ingredients to a boil in a sauce pan, then reduce to a low heat and leave to simmer for as long as you can. The more time it simmers, the more flavor it develops! However, don’t forget to stir it while it’s simmering – in fact, stir it frequently – or it’ll clump up on the sides as it reduces (we let that happen once).
What Will You Do With This Low-Carb Barbecue Sauce?
I understand that this is a difficult issue to answer. There are so many other ways to use it than eating it right out of the sauce pan! I honestly don’t think there could have been a better spot for this BBQ Sauce with Low Carbs than on pulled pork for some amazing pulled pork sandwiches! If you’re interested in making our pulled pork sandwich, a recipe will be posted soon!
To sum up my concluding ideas, I know BBQ sauce and I’m glad to be back in each other’s lives! And you can bet I’ll be covering everything there is to know about it!
