I hope the information and resources here will help you to feel less alone and more empowered as you search for the best treatment options for you, and seek out the support that you need.

Remember that what you read here and elsewhere on the Internet is never a substitute for good medical care, and should always be discussed with your doctors and other healthcare providers. Like most advocates, I believe that informed patients (and families) get the best care.  My goal is always to empower women and their families with evidence-based information, so that they can forge more effective partnerships with their medical team.

I was diagnosed with Stage II breast cancer in 1989, and have been a patient advocate since then, with a focus on helping women with metastatic breast cancer make informed treatment decisions.  While I've learned a great deal about this disease and its treatments over the years, I am not a doctor or medical professional.  I do try to keep up-to-date on the research by attending most of the major scientific conferences, and following the research literature.

More than a decade ago, I wrote and published Advanced Breast Cancer: A Guide to Living with Metastatic Disease, still the only book-length guide for women with advanced breast cancer.  Many excerpts are available here free at this website. At the heart of this book are  the voices of 35 patients and family members sharing  their experiences of living with the disease. People have asked over the years if a new edition is planned. Because the pace of research has accelerated over the last decade, and treatment options are continually evolving, the Internet has clearly become the most timely and efficient way to share this information, through the mailing lists, forums and bulletin boards of patient communities, medical education websites, and of course the scientific literature. It is the mission of AdvancedBC.org and its sister website BrainMetsBC.org to gather the best of these resources together in one place.

You can get in touch with me through this website, and I'll try to answer your questions promptly..
